Leisure and Sports

Malta offers a mosaic of sports and leisure activities hard to find elsewhere. Malta, Gozo and Comino are an adventure-land tailor-made for those who enjoy the challenge of something new. Travel a few kilometres - take advantage of the good bus and boat network – and you will find yourself in a new world as a landscape of terraced fields, rocky creeks, sheer cliffs or small sandy coves unfolds before your eyes.
Since the sea temperature ranges between 15 C in winter and 25 C in summer you can sail, dive, paraglide or enjoy the many water sports almost all the year round.
Try climbing the cliffs at Dingli accompanied by an experienced guide. As you look down on a timeless landscape it is impossible not to feel exhilarated. The experience is truly breath-taking, the view spectacular. And higher, much higher up, you may try your hand in paragliding and soar like the birds. Or you could board a seaplane from the Grand Harbour and fly to Gozo landing just outside the very picturesque little harbour of Mgarr- it is one way of getting to know the islands .. from the air.

As the hills and contours are silhouetted against the brilliant sun the invigorating smell of eucalyptus is unmistakable. Once the urban areas have been left behind the rest of Malta is a stretch of countryside. Hire a 4-wheel drive and explore these country lanes, whose sides are carpeted with flowers and sweet-smelling bushes especially in spring. Take a look at the many stone huts (Girna), the wayside chapels and the coastal 16th century watchtowers. Explore the famous cave where the nymph Calypso held Ulysses a ‘ prisoner of love’ for seven years. Walk down to the deep valleys or up to the hilltop villages in Gozo. And if it gets all too tiring, hire a bicycle. Whichever means of transport you choose, it is here that you will discover the hidden beauty of the Maltese Islands.
